Event Description

The life and teachings of Lord Krishna and Lord Buddha, the two most illustrious Avatars of Lord Vishnu’s Dashavatar, have fired the imagination of generations of artists and connoisseurs of art. They are the most human of all avatars of Lord Bishnu. Both preached the need for universal love to remove the ills and sufferings of humanity. Krishna’s message of love found expressions through the most humane form of men- women relationship. The story of Radha and Krishna is the epitome of selfless relationship that most men and women can easily identify with. The Buddha in his lifetime understood the futility of severe asceticism. He taught us to look at and think about our own lives. The most profound expression of his philosophy can be seen in this quote of Buddha, “All that we are is the result of what we have thought. If a man speaks or acts with an evil thought, pain follows him. If a man speaks or acts with a pure thought, happiness follows him, like a shadow that never leaves him.” Babita Biswas paintings in Warli Art Form, a traditional art form of Maharashtra, on the Blue God and the Awakened have given rise to an entirely new insight into the life and philosophy of these two great souls. She dares to put them in the same frame for the simple reason that for both of them answer to all human sufferings lie in human life itself.

While choosing the Warli Art of painting, a traditional art form of Maharashtra, makes use of simple triangles, circles, dots and dashes in a bi-colour format (white and brown) general to depict normal workday in the life of Warli community. Babita Biswas without compromising on the basic characteristics of the art, creatively experiments with colours to create images of divinity.
